It’s more than just an investment

Recently, we had the pleasure of immersing ourselves with like minded individuals and companies at the People’s Company Land Investment Expo in Des Moines, IA.  First off, what a wonderful city to host an event in.  “Iowa Nice” is a real thing!  I’ll admit, I was less than excited about going to Iowa in the middle of January, but the city is wonderful, the food is wonderful and I’m already looking forward to next year!

The People’s Company Land Expo isn’t for the faint of heart.  Real, controversial, political issues were at the forefront of discussion.  Each speaker wasn’t afraid of discussing climate change, economics, the reality of population grown and urban sprawl while keeping the root of why we were all there. Every person at the Expo has a passion for agriculture and land in America, which was why our good friends at The Land Report suggested we attend this event.

The Land Report 100 was unveiled and proudly showcasing the newest #1 landowner in America, The Emmerson Family.  Take the time to read the article about Mr. Emmerson…it’s worth the time!  When the annual LR 100 is unveiled, it’s always fun to see the friendly competition between our clients, and our potential clients.  We are proud to work for the top landowners in America and as you read their stories in the magazine, it continues to speak true that land purchases are more than just an investment.

LAND: I’m sure each of us can remember a parent, grandparent or great grandparent telling us, they aren’t make any more of it.  Well, turns out that is true, we haven’t figured out how to make any more land.  What we have figured out though, is how to utilize, improve and conserve the land and it’s resources.  We’ve figured out how to turn dreams into reality, investments into legacies and passion into production.

The challenges don’t stop there.  We have to continue how to feed more people on less farmground.  We have to balance the promise of reducing carbon footprint by utilizing sustainable fuels, which requires the need for substantially larger farmground to support sustainable fuels, with LESS FARMGROUND.  We have to continue to fight of who gets the water. Again, the challenges never stop, but when we get the opportunity to be in a room full of people who aren’t afraid of change and challenge, it’s amazing what can be done.  Here’s to American Agriculture…it has a bright future!
